| They call it a three-dimensional scrapbook for summer 2008, but why be so humble? Couldn’t “Friday 13th” be the harbinger of something new, something fresh, something revelatory? Now, as the traditional way of presenting fashion with seasonal collections – Spring / Summer and Autumn / Winter – is slowly but surely being hollowed out by the industry’s acceleration, it is worthwhile to experiment with new formats of experiencing fashion. “Friday 13th” actually materializes all the promises and the recylced rhetorics about Berlin that are now being spun for Berlin Fashion Week 2007: Because there is neither an industry nor a tradition for fashion in Berlin yet, it can – or rather, should! – be a space for disruption and experimentation unlike the established fashion capitals of Paris and Milan. Here, the charming boys and girls of Broken Hearts Club and Nowadays feature fashion in its playful reference system of music, art and design, condensing the city’s spirit into one night and bringing forth an exciting constellation of people, ideas and sounds.
