A graduate of philosophy and communication design, Berlin artist
Markus Keibel, born in Stuttgart in 1964, focuses on the role of social freedom. Since 2002 he has mounted posters with the phrase „My freedom is your freedom, your freedom is my freedom” on city walls all over the world, including Cape Town, Berlin and Istanbul. The composition „Die Kraft des Selberdenkens” („The Power of Thinking for Yourself”), an installation of glass, shows an immediate reference to his performing action. The qualities of transparency and lucidity are corresponding to his artistic idea: „If you spare a thought for an independent soul or detach yourself and give it some kind of distance then proceed in the opposite direction with external things – and transform them into thoughts.”
