| Friday 13th was initially set up in the summer of 2007 as an experiment into new forms of exhibition presentation. The name „Friday 13th” was not only the date of the first event – Friday, July 13th 2007 – but also a reference to Friday 13th as a metaphor for darkness, danger and the fear of the unknown. It thus became the order of the day: Friday 13th was open to new and even controversial content and presentation forms. The theme of this year‘s exhibition is „Into the Woods”, a contemporary interpretation of romanticism. The period of Romanticism has long fascinated people with its longing for the fantastic and mystical and its willingness to believe in the supernatural. At the time it was a reaction against the philosophies of 18th-century rationalism, nowadays it might be the antithesis to todays rational and functionalist minimalism. Friday 13th translates the romantic demand for a „universal poetry” (Schlegel), which overcomes the boundaries between the different forms of art into an all-encompassing experimental and interdisciplinary composition. Friday 13th presents artists from the world of fine arts and music: David Benjamin Sherry, Fetisch, Gary Coyle, Jan Scharrelmann, Juliane Renz, Julieta Aranda, Markus Keibel, Maryam Najd, Mathias Munk Modica, Nathan G. Wilkins, Patricia Urquiola, Richard Clouston and Tove Storch.
